28/01/07—13.04pm Marshalled at TC2 and TC17. All crews looking very committed, Steve Retchless’ RS2000 looking and sounding absolutely sweet, with Paul Taylor on the maps a well deserved victory by everyone’s account. Pushing them all the way Nick Toplis and Mick Fern their best result for sometime in the Proton closely followed by Dan Willan & Paul Allen in the Astra GTE who are now very familiar with the podium positions. Dan Robinson & Ian Gibbins looked to be going great when we saw them but not breaking into the top 3 unusually for them. Also having not such a good night by their standards Stan Featherstone and Mike Ogram who missed the slot right after tc2 and we didn’t notice them re-appear unless we were distracted and missed it. Bad news also for Gav Smith and Mike Petch who’d missed a board when they came to us at tc2—maybe we’ve become the bad omen!  On a positive note a solid finish at 17th o/a for Ben Blanchard and John Turnbull,  despite mechanical problems in the vicinity of a ford! It was great to see so many newcomers and youngsters on the event I noticed and also the organisation appeared absolutely clinical. More news follows…..  

 

 

29/01/07—20.23pm Ok had time to talk to Andy B who got home considerably later than I did, so I have to issue an apology to Mike Petch, who had NOT missed a board at our control as stated above...but actually drowned out in the ford, having problems starting the car and forcing them to go OTL at the next control—also affected as previously posted were Ben & John and also Pete Jagger & Kev Wilson with water logging…..
